About this internship
At IMDA, our vision is to drive a dynamic digital economy with global footprint. By being part of our internship programme, you will have the opportunity to learn and contribute in curated project deliverables, experience IMDA’s culture and network with the minds behind shaping the nation’s dynamic digital economy.
We are looking for interns to join the
Strategic Planning & Digital Readiness Group (SPDR)
for our
January to June 2027 internship cycle
.
Scope of Work
The intern will develop and deliver one applied futures project over the course of the internship. The project question will be scoped collaboratively at the start of the internship, based on team priorities and the intern's interests. For the project, the intern will:
Conduct horizon scanning to identify signals and emerging trends relevant to the chosen topic, drawing on a range of sources across the digital and technology domain.
Apply futures methodologies (such as driving forces analysis, trend deep dives, and scenario-building) to develop insights on the topic.
Analyse implications for IMDA, government and Singapore.
Synthesise findings into a foresight product and share it with internal or external audiences (e.g. a scenarios report, a trend brief, a slide deck).
The intern will also:
Assist in curating and supporting foresight community activities (e.g. workshops, sandbox sessions).
Support preparation of other foresight products (e.g. tech trends newsletter).
Contribute to internal outreach and communications efforts.
Learning Outcomes
Develop practical competency in futures methodologies, including horizon scanning, driving forces analysis, and scenario-building, applied to real digital and technology policy questions.
Build analytical and communication skills in translating complex, uncertain trends into clear insights for senior decision-makers.
Gain an understanding of how a public sector agency like IMDA develops policy and translates foresight insights into actionable recommendations.
Skills Required
Background in any discipline with strong analytical or research grounding. Particularly relevant degrees include Public Policy, Political Science, PPE, Sociology, Geography, Economics, or Computer Science, though strong candidates from any field will be considered. Curiosity about technology and its societal implications, and a willingness to engage with open-ended questions, matter more than a specific degree.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise information clearly and concisely for senior audiences.
Comfort with ambiguity and independent thinking - futures work requires forming reasoned views under uncertainty, not just summarising what exists.
