About Columns Columns is a software company building AI tools for sales teams. Our product helps sales professionals capture client conversations, generate transcripts, create structured meeting notes, and organize follow-up actions. We are hiring a Software Engineer Intern, AI to support our engineering team on speech-to-text, AI workflow, backend, and mobile product development. This is a paid internship role based in Singapore with a hybrid work arrangement. Responsibilities As a Software Engineer Intern, AI, you may work on: Improving speech-to-text quality for real-world conversations involving background noise, multiple speakers, English, Mandarin, Singlish, and mixed-language conversations Testing and comparing speech-to-text models, large language models, prompts, and structured output formats Building internal evaluation workflows to measure transcript and summary quality Improving mobile app reliability for recording, uploading, and processing audio Working on backend services that support transcription, summarization, and meeting-note generation Using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools as part of the software development workflow Reviewing, testing, and maintaining code before it is shipped to users Qualifications We are looking for candidates who have: Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, a degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, or a related technical field Experience building software through coursework, internships, open-source work, or personal projects Programming experience in at least one language such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, Java, or a similar language Interest in applied AI, speech-to-text, large language models, prompt engineering, evaluation workflows, or mobile software Ability to communicate clearly and work responsibly in a small engineering team Willingness to learn, test assumptions, and ship working software Preferred but not required: Experience with React Native, Expo, or mobile app development Experience with speech, audio, transcription, diarization, or voice AI Experience with backend systems, databases, APIs, or cloud services Experience using LLM APIs or structured AI outputs Experience with product analytics or software testing Working arrangement This role is based in Singapore. The internship is hybrid, with some in-person work expected for team collaboration, product testing, and user feedback sessions. Any required in-person work will be discussed during the interview process. What you will learn During the internship, you will gain practical experience working on production software, applied AI systems, speech-to-text workflows, mobile reliability, and engineering trade-offs in a startup environment. You will work directly with the founding team and receive regular feedback on your engineering work.
